The What Is? Mishnah lesson offers students an opportunity to study about the Mishnah. The lesson includes (1) a blind reading of the text of Bava Kamma 1.1 (for motivation); (2) a decoding of this Mishnah using texts from Parashat Mishpatim; (3) a series of application cases that help students understand that the Mishnah is presenting categories, not just single cases; and (4) a look at Bava Kamma 30a as a way of expressing the value of halakhic study.
