The Stories We Live By: The Feather Story offers students an opportunity to discuss the power of words to hurt and heal. It is a perfect lesson on the Jewish value of Shmirat Dibbur (guarding one's words) and t'shuvah (repentance). In the story, Barukh tells everyone about the foolish thing that Nathan did. When Barukh seeks our advice from the rabbi, the rabbi teaches him that gossip is just like feathers, which spread with the wind.
