The Stories We Live By: Honest Scales lesson offers students an opportunity to understand that “radical” honesty is a rare and important value. In the story, there is a drought. The rabbi realizes that the only person whose prayers will reach God is the most righteous person in the community, Kalman, the grocer. He is righteous because he makes sure to only use honest scales.
