Think Prophets: Deborah

Grades: 6-Adult       Think Prophets is a series of fourteen lessons that provide a patchwork opportunity to study the third of the Bible known as "The Prophets."

The story of Deborah is told twice in the Bible, once in an historical chapter and once in the form of a poem, “the Song of Deborah.” Each presents different information. We get more of the story by taking details from each edition. In this lesson we will (a) learn about reconstructing history from source documents and (b) learn about the Jewish people during the time of the settlement of Canaan. Between these processes, the story of Deborah—one of a number of female Jewish leaders—emerges.
