Grades: 4-7 The Stories We Live By lessons use Jewish folktales and Rabbinic stories to teach important Jewish values. Each lesson tells a story and offers probing questions and text study for students to consider. Twelve Stories We Live By lessons are available. The teacher's guide is sold separately.
Stories We Live by: The Feather Story is a familiar Jewish folk tale that tells of Barukh's anguish after hurting his good friend, Nathan. Nathan did a foolish thing, and Barukh told all his friends, who spread that rumor about Nathan through the town. The Rabbi helps Barukh understand why Nathan is so hurt by throwing pillow feathers off the highest building. The Feather Story helps students learn about words that hurt and heal. It is a perfect lesson on the Jewish value of Shmirat Dibbur (guarding one's words) and is a good lesson to do as part of a High Holy Day experience to talk about t'shuvah (repentance).
