Building Jewish Life: God Creates Everything

Grades: 3-4       BJL Synagogue looks at the synagogue as a dynamic place. Its central focus is the model of the synagogue including three basic functions—a beit tefillah (a house of prayer), a beit midrash (a house of study), and a beit k'nesset (a house of gathering). 

This lesson starts with the Jewish idea that we find evidence of God in the things that God creates. Jews use the present tense for creation, as we learn in the daily prayer that says "God renews daily the acts of creation." In the lesson, we learn that (1) everything (including human creations) is created by God (directly or indirectly); (2) creation is diverse and wondrous, and (3) blessings are a Jewish way of acknowledging God's creations.
