Grades: 3-4 BJL Synagogue looks at the synagogue as a dynamic place. Its central focus is the model of the synagogue as including three basic functions—a beit tefillah (a house of prayer), a beit midrash (a house of study), and a beit k'nesset (a house of gathering).
In this lesson we learn that God gives us the chance to start over and change our behavior. We learn this through the idea of repentance. The Hebrew word for repentance is t'shuvah. We learn this idea in this lesson through readings, looking at prayer, writing a practice t'shuvah letter, and learning what a famous rabbi has to say about this idea.
